5 Areas of Focus
These courses address the unique challenges faced by five non-profits areas*. They equip volunteer managers and coordinators with information, skills and resources to help build capacity in their own volunteer programs. All courses are available online through the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network Learning Space.
Festivals and Fairs
How do you recruit, train and retain the best volunteers each festival season? This course will increase organizational knowledge of volunteer management, address the challenges and opportunities in seasonal recruitment, and help festival managers create effective and engaging training to retain more volunteers each year.
Hospital Programs and Associations
Recruiting the right volunteers into programs and auxiliaries is essential to giving your hospital the best support possible. This workshop will consider effective strategies for long-term engagement, how to create and maintain boundaries with volunteers, and how to get staff support to help build your program’s capacity.
Long-Term Care Homes and Hospice Programs
When volunteer roles are emotionally demanding, establishing and enforcing boundaries can be difficult. This workshop will include strategies for creating and maintaining effective boundaries with vulnerable clients, and how you can tackle negative perceptions of volunteering in long-term care and hospices for more effective volunteer recruitment and retention.
How do you recruit and retain mentors with the skills and personalities to help mentees thrive? This workshop will address off-site supervision of mentoring matches, building and maintaining boundaries in mentoring relationships, and how match managers and coordinators can develop effective programs from the start.
Sports Leagues and Associations
Do you consider parents, players and paying members of your league volunteers? This workshop will examine who is considered a volunteer in sports organizations and what it means to manage them, how seasonal sports can affect your leagues ability to effectively engage the right volunteers, and how effective training can help retain volunteers year after year.
*Areas of focus were determined through an in-depth needs assessment, in consultation with provincial associations and communities.
